Best of the Bunch - December 2013

Best of the Bunch is a book blog hop hosted over at Always Lost in Stories on the last day of each month, where we can look back over the books we have read over this past month and give a Best of the Bunch award to our favorite book of that month.

December 2013

        • All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill | Review | Rating 5/5

And my December 2013 Best of the Bunch winner is . . .

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

Once again, my favorite book of the month was the last one I reviewed.  There were actually a few really close runner-ups this month, though.  (see below)  But I had to go with All Our Yesterdays in the end because this book was just so unique and emotionally compelling.

Summary: "You have to kill him." Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.

Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend James since the day he moved next door when they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Now someone is trying to kill him. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was.

All Our Yesterdays is a wrenching, brilliantly plotted story of fierce love, unthinkable sacrifice, and the infinite implications of our every choice.

          Runner-ups:
          Buy Chasing the Star Garden
          Buy The Prophecy

So, what was your best December read?

All Our Yesterdays was a gorgeous read. Finn was adorable! :D Aside from that, the only book from your list that I've read is Not a Drop to Drink, which I thought was an okay read.

And what do you mean you didn't read a lot this month? That is a lot of books.

You always read so many books. The only one I have read is Pawn. I keep hearing great things about Not A Drop To Drink and All Our Yesterdays. I have some catching up to do!

I absolutely LOVE the Kemmerer series - one of my favorite all-time series for sure! I do read a lot (sometimes to my husband's dismay!). :-)
I really want to read Chasing the star garden! The story sounds amazing and I love books with steampunk elements.
