Top Ten Recommendations ...

Today's Top Ten Tuesday is:

Top Ten Books I'd Give to Readers Who've Never Read ...

New Adult
  1. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover - I think this is my favorite New Adult book ever, and it's a good way to ease into NA reading for those who aren't looking for something too incredibly spicy.
  2. Girls Love Travis Walker by Anne Pfeffer - This was one of my first NA reads, and I so loved it that I constantly recommend it to everyone. Something about this book just struck a nerve with me. I LOVE it!!
Fantasy
  1. The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb - Pretty much anything Robin Hobb writes is masterful, but this was the trilogy that started it all, many eons ago. I will forever hold a place in my heart for this series - and for all of the books that came after (Hobb is releasing the first book in a new companion series next week!).
  2. Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson - This one is a much more recent fantasy novel - in fact it just came out in July.  I was blown away by this book and it reminded me why I love fantasy!
Dystopian
  1. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins - Yeah, I know, this one's kind of obvious. But if you haven't read any dystopian, this is the first one I'd recommend. Can't help it if it's true.
  2. The Delirium Trilogy by Lauren Oliver - If someone's not sure if dystopian is for them, this trilogy might be a good place to start because it's not too terribly heavy. Plus, it has a really interesting concept!
YA Contemporary
  1. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - Again, this was one of my first YA Contemporary reads. It's funny because I've actually rated other books higher, but this one still stands out in my mind. I think it's a perfect bridge into the YA Contemporary world.
  2. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay - This one is very different from my first selection in this category - much more serious and a bit darker. But, my, what an amazing book!
YA Paranormal
  1. The Elemental Series by Brigid Kemmerer - I absolutely adore this entire series and think that it's YA paranormal at it's best!!
  2. The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead - The Vampire Academy series got me hooked on YA paranormal, so I have to recommend it to other genre newbies, right?
So, that's it.  What would you recommend?

I will always love Robin Hobb because she is one of the first fantasy authors I ever read. Plus, her worldbuilding is truly amazing. I always know I'm going to love her books!
Yay Vampire Academy! And Kiss of Deception is on the TBR pile and I am doing my best to get to it! I said August, but wondering if I spoke too soon! Although we did just start August...too soon to tell! But I gotta read it! I own it, so that's a step in the right direction! ;)

I loved Kiss of Deception - hope you do too!!
Oh, I like how you chose more than one genre! Maybe Someday, The Kiss of Deception, Hunger Games, Anna and the French Kiss, Elemental series.. Loved them all! I cannot wait to read The Sea of Tranquility; it's been on my wishlist since forever! Great list. :)

Sounds like we like lots of the same books! You should definitely read Sea of Tranquility - it was an amazing book!
I would also recommend Girls Love Travis Walker. I talked about that unexpected aspect about Travis in my review. A good pick!

Travis is one of those books that I still think about often, even though I read it over a year ago and it doesn't get much publicity (so it's not like I'm being reminded of it all the time). I just really loved it!
I think that I have read one of each book in your list, if not the whole series. Have you read the new Hobb book yet? I grabbed it, and planned to review it by next week, but haven't had a chance. My sister got me onto her work. I love Fitz!!

I'm reading the new Hobb book right now, actually (I'm still in chapter one, though). She is one of my absolute favorite authors of all time and I was so excited to see a new series that will feature Fitz!
Awesome picks :) The Hunger Games is on a lot of lists this week! I need to try those Fantasy titles!

Yes, I knew Hunger Games would be on lots of lists, but I just couldn't leave it off. I would definitely recommend it as a first dystopian read!
I have kiss of deception to review but unfortunately still haven't gotten to it yet! Can't wait though. Also -- so much yes on VA!!! I push that series on everyone. :)

Yes, VA is one of those series that could get anyone hooked on YA paranormal!!
I love VA! Too bad so many people don't want to read the series becouse of the name. I also love the spin-off Bloodlines too.
I have heard so many people raving about The Kiss Of Deception I'm going to have to read it soon!
Good list!
