Summary from Goodreads: Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

MY TAKE

If you haven't read The Immortal Rules yet, go get it NOW (and then come back and read this review later -it contains spoilers from the first book in the series).

Oh, Julie Kagawa, why do you torture me so?  That ending, REALLY?  REALLY?!  Okay, I think I can calm myself enough to write a review now, but honestly it's going to be hard.  Let me start by saying, I could not wait for this book - I absolutely loved The Immortal Rules and I was a little nervous that this second book might be a bit of a let-down.  Um, no.

Honestly, this book had everything I could have possibly wanted in a second book.  The same old Allison, a strong, fierce vampire fighting to hold onto her humanity.  In The Eternity Cure, Allison goes on a rescue mission, intent on saving her sire Kanin from the evil and completely insane Sarren.  But, her rescue mission soon turns out to be a lot more than that - she ends up racing against time to find a cure for a new strain of the Red Lung virus before it kills off both the humans and the vampires.  Along the way, she picks up a very unlikely ally - her "brother" Jackal (who is the vampire who captured and killed her friends in the last book, in case you've forgotten).  I LOVED the snarky love/hate relationship between Allison and Jackal.  He added a sense of comedy to the book along with a one of many elements of danger because Allison never knew if she could trust him or not.

Speaking of danger, there is LOTS of it in this book!  The new strain of the Red Lung virus has created new monsters to fear.  Plus, there's Sarren, mole men, vengeful vampires, and even old friends turned enemies.  Honestly, I went through the whole book wondering if/when/how someone was going to die.  Kagawa kept us guessing.  Right up until the very end.  The end....Aargh!  I really don't want to spoil anything from the book, so I will just say that it is full of action, drama, romance (yep, there's more romance - I love that Kagawa can give us this element without it taking over the whole book), and nail-biting thrills.  The only thing wrong with this book is that the next one isn't out NOW.  I don't know if I can survive the wait.  5/5 Stars.

P.S. Just went to your blog and saw that you have your own books - checked out the reviews for The Puppet Spell and it sounds like people are loving it. I'll definitely have to check it out!

    1. Yes, this is definitely a cliffhanger ending. But even more than that, the whole last chapter or two was amazing and yet torturous!
